Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband to the late Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Dora Akunyili was shot dead by unidentified or unknown gunmen in Anambra state.

He was attacked and killed on his way from Onicha alongside his driver and police escorts. The number of casualties is yet to be ascertained as the state police spoke person, Ikenga Tochukwu is yet to confirm the incident.

The attack was carried out at Afor Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday evening, 28th September 2021 according to local media when he was coming back from an event to obtain a posthumous award of excellence for his late wife when the attack happened.
