Do you know of anyone who will get up in the morning, packs his bags and head to the airport or motor park without a destination in mind?
Imagine for a moment that I go to the airport with packed bags with no destination in mind.
It is after getting to the place that I started thinking: where am I going, or where should I travel to? The US? Germany? The UK? Afghanistan? Iraq? Iran? Where?
Does this not sound strange or improbable?
It is, but it is also real in our relationship with power.
From what we have seen, and witnessing daily, it is clear that many people with power stumbled on power - they had no plan and purpose for power-like the journeyman above, they had no destination.
They packed up, got to the airport, and paid for whatever was available because they wanted to travel.
No plan on what to do on arrival.
Sounds strangely familiar, right? It is, unfortunately. Most of our folks with power over us did not sit down to think about:
When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.
We abuse Power - political power because we don’t know the purpose.

Power is not to make you and your family and friends, rich. It is not to give you the capacity to ride roughshod over others; it is to be used to serve the people and make life easy for them to live.
It is the biggest force for transformation or destruction. It is not something to be given to vile and empty people. Precious things are not for pigs, and nothing is more precious than power.
We have given power to people who don’t know what it is, what it should be used for; and who should use it. They get into power before seeking to understand the real purpose of power, by which time they are already crowded with the wrong motives.
Power should be clearly understood, and the purpose know to anyone who wants it before seeking it.
Power should not be compensatory - give it to him or them because he or they have suffered.
There are other things we can compensate people with - not power.
Power is too precious and consequential to be toyed with.
Power is beyond the sound of the wailing sirens and the sense of self-importance and other perks, it is about lives. You are a custodian to lives. You have what is needed to make or mar their lives and futures.
People who understand power and the purpose of it hardly abuse it.
They know what to do with it. They know the people who can help use it to translate vision into reality. They cast their nets far and wide to look for the right talents.
They go outside of the gated community of politics to the integrated community to seek for the right skills and hearts to use power for the people.
They don’t wait to get power and say ”okay I’m here now, how do I compensate those who helped me get power”? Not everyone participates in farming the foods we all eat, but we eat them all the same.
As we approach 2023, ask yourself these questions before you support any person:
If we do things the same way, we will always have the same results.
